  • The Tunnel

The Tunnel is a rock musical exploration of Joseph Campbell’s Hero Myth, Hollywood’s favored storytelling template of the last twenty-five years with a thrashing score of emo pop, punk pop and rock-n-roll.

Set amidst the actual (former) reality of NYC’s Mole People, the homeless population that lived underground in abandoned subway tunnels, this contemporary musical centers around a jaded journalist who becomes entwined in a young woman’s search for the details regarding the mysterious history of a father she never knew. Campbell’s familiar archetypes such as The Ally, The Mentor, The Oracle, The Threshold Guardian, The Shadow and others appear as part of the fabric of modern New York’s underground secret that ultimately unfold in a quest for truth. The Tunnel is a fantasy that veers relentlessly between the many forms of mythical storytelling: Greek, urban, religious, and folkloric. As the fine line between hunter and hunted blurs, this new musical ascends—by descending beneath the streets of New York City.

The action takes place in the present and the pacing of Act One is purposefully swift in both dialogue and transitions—much like The Social Network. However, the characters depicted could have a neo-futuristic or stylized design elements to accentuate the fantastical, urban and mythic quality of the show.

Inspiration from neo-futuristic big city interpretations in films such as Batman Returns, The Matrix or shows such as American Idiot provide great examples of the heightened visual concept and theatrical technology-based possibilities of the piece.

  • Rise or Fall

Rise or Fall is a rock fable that explores our fame-obsessed world where winners exploit losers and call it entertainment. Jo and Bella—two rare beauties with voices to match—find themselves polarized in an online strategy designed to propel both of them into the spotlight. Rise or Fall is set against the gritty glamour of Los Angeles where an online scavenger hunt and vocal battle is brainstormed by a young, upstart mastermind group of rising stars in music, film, commercial dance and digital media. Everyone gets locked into an art pop cyber war fueled by sex, drugs and self-destruction as Jo and Bella claw their way towards the final round.

For the record, Rise or Fall is a concept exploration of an original pop/rock musical featuring the fearless, post-modern music of one of the greatest pop artists of today. This is a show where we are voyeurs—peeking inside the stories of each song and the characters that are revealed. High concept, artful performances alternate with moments of intimacy, truth and psychological conflict. Cutting-edge technology, star cameos and the relentless venom/praise from online paparazzi up the stakes throughout the show, forcing everyone involved to face their demons.

Seamless montage, production numbers, inner monologues, video mapping, immersive media, hot bodies, lights, lasers, glitter, costumes, choreography and sharp-as-a-knife dialogue all have their place at the table in this new musical format.

Whenever not moving their personal character story forward, the young sexy characters in Rise or Fall get the same privilege to watch the story unfold with their distinct point of view while providing necessary layers of vocal beauty, haunting commentary and stepping in as supporting characters for a truly immersive theatrical experience.
