VP Boyle is a preeminent Broadway audition coach, author, award-winning filmmaker and creative director. Boyle is a nationally recognized expert in contemporary musical theatre and pop/rock musicals with over 25 years of experience on and off the stage.
Boyle will be presenting The Twisted Christmas Show with Pamela Bob and Mark Fifer, this holiday season at Green Room 42 in New York City. Addtionally, he is developing a new musical anthology series, String Lights, that leans into the humanity of our darkest moment, Oscuro: Everyone Wears a Mask, an immersive pick-your-own-ending musical experience set in a dystopian cantina on Día de Muertos, as well as Desert Dream—a rock musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream featuring 90’s alternative hits set at Burning Man. He has developed new musical projects featuring music by Fall Out Boy and Lady Gaga, and is currently developing a slate of new creative concepts for cruise ship brands and casino venues.
Boyle served as the creator and director of Dear Future Husband, a new interactive pop musical produced by Carnival Entertainment as part of their popular Playlist Productions already loved by guests across the fleet. Guests follow a bride and groom on a wedding adventure – aboard a cruise ship – with their best friends. The cast performs pop mega hits, like “Marry You” by Bruno Mars, “Moves Like Jagger” by Maroon 5 and “Man! I Feel like a Woman!” by Shania Twain. After the show, guests join in on the fun at a wedding reception where they dance to more pop hits and interact with the cast. The party includes a first dance, a groom and groomsman surprise, and of course, the iconic garter toss and a toast to the happy couple.
Boyle is the author of Audition Freedom: The Irreverent Wellness Guide for Theatre People and has contributed his expertise as a frequent guest contributor for BroadwayWorld.com, as well as being featured as the Broadway expert in Southern Theatre Magazine. Boyle made his West Coast theatrical directing debut with the hit show Roar: She’s a Hero. She Just Doesn’t Know It Yet. He wrote and directed the Academy-award qualifying musical short film It Is What It Is and the award-winning musical short films Lifeless and Gingerbread House.
Boyle is proud to have created the curriculum for 3 cutting-edge accredited musical theatre programs: University of Southern California, The New York Film Academy, and Relativity School—the only accredited film school of its kind originally created in partnership with a major motion picture studio. Boyle also served as Creative Director for LiveRead@SDA at USC School of Dramatic Arts, a program created to cultivate and provide critical support for the creation of innovative and contemporary new musical projects for the American theatre. Boyle also was selected as Lead Consultant to create and design USC’s new collaborative BFA in Contemporary Musical Theatre for the USC School of Dramatic Arts, Glorya Kaufman School of Dance and Thornton School of Music. He had the privilege to serve as Creative Director for the opening performance at the USC Village Gala—the largest university event ever produced by USC’s award-winning team at the Office of Cultural Relations and University Events.
Having grown up in the cornfields of Illinois, Boyle combines his Midwest work ethic with a very LA/NYC-centric worldview, to bring fresh musical narratives and immersive theatre projects to life. He currently lives in New York City with his French Bulldog, Betty.
